This was another refreshingly honest newsletter about tact. I appreciate that you didn’t give us a magic timeline, but instead laid out a clear and realistic path to help improve this important skill. I tested your advice in a group chat where a friend was being overly critical. In the past I would have reacted to her. This time I responded with kindness and a gentle redirect. It changed the tone of the conversation immediately for the better! I’m looking forward to refining this skill more and I’m intrigued about your upcoming Masterclass. Thank you for the encouragement and have a great holiday weekend Idris Elijah!
That’s outstanding! Love when advice works in a given situation. Also, you’re welcome, I’m pleased you found this issue refreshing and useful. I’m excited that you’re intrigued about my upcoming Masterclass. It’s really turning into a labor of love. Have a great holiday weekend as well, Jody! 😊
Your newsletters have been such a blessing in two of the most important areas of my life — My relationship with my daughter and my job. By now I think everyone here knows about my difficult coworker lol. I love how you frame tact as both a communication skill and a personal growth practice. This week I tried to use tact when giving feedback to the infamous coworker. Instead of rushing through it, I paused and led with appreciation. It made a huge difference! You’re right when you say it’s not easy but it’s so worth it. Keep these newsletters coming Idris Elijah!!
Awwww, Maria, thank you soooo much for your kind worlds. They mean the world to me. And yes, I think I can speak for the group, we will always remember your difficult coworker. She’s infamous at this point 🤣 I’m glad you’ve been able to transform your relationship with your daughter and job. Grateful I’ve had a hand in that. I’ll do my best to keep these newsletters coming. Thanks again Maria for your support! 😊🙌🏾
I pride myself on being tactful most of the time but your newsletters remind me that we are all works in progress that can continue to learn as we grow into the best version of ourselves. Admittedly I have a lot of opinions (it’s a Libra thing) but sometimes it’s more tactful to just listen in order to understand the other person’s perspective. The feedback I get from my best friend has helped me see how I can handle tough conversations better and become more emotionally intelligent. I’m so glad you’ve been exploring this important topic. Thanks for the insightful read Idris!
That’s wonderful Brian! Couldn’t have said it better. It’s so important to listen for understanding rather than listening to reply. Sounds like your best friend really cares about you and wants the best for you. Kudos on that and your most welcome 🤗
Your newsletters on tact have come at the perfect time. I’m aware that I can be very direct and how that can be a double-edged sword when I’m communicating with friends, family and coworkers. I had a moment recently where I almost snapped, but I remembered your advice and paused instead. It felt like a small but powerful win. Keep sharing this good stuff Idris Elijah!
What an excellent achievement! Small wins add up. Kudos to you, no doubt. And thank you, I’ll continue doing my best and delivery as much value as I can 😊
