I have voice memos full of melodies, lyric ideas scribbled in notebooks and song concepts saved everywhere. For years I thought I needed more inspiration but honestly I probably need better organization. There are songs hiding in ideas I’ve already had. I’ve been reading these newsletters for a while now and one lesson that keeps coming up is that growth isn’t always about adding more. Sometimes it’s about organizing better. This issue made me think about my own notes and drafts. I have hundreds of ideas scattered across notebooks and apps. Maybe the next thing I need to write isn’t hiding in a new book. Maybe it’s hiding in something I wrote six months ago and forgot about. Thank you Idris Elijah for sharing these insights week after week and have a great weekend!

As an artist, I related to this more than I expected. I have folders of reference photos, sketches, color palettes and unfinished ideas. Sometimes I keep searching for new inspiration when I haven’t fully explored what I already have. The line about information being valuable only when it’s accessible really stuck with me. One thing I’ve gotten from following these newsletters is that so many problems seem to come back to the same thing: not necessarily needing more but using what we already have more effectively. Whether it’s assumptions, systems, habits or now organization, I’m starting to see how much growth comes from paying attention to the fundamentals.
