My family has had a love of music and specifically dancing for as long as I can remember. I can sing well but I never learned to dance. Now I’m seeing my daughter become passionate about learning dance and I would love to learn it too! It has felt overwhelming to me but I like what you said about breaking it down into bite-sized pieces and setting clear practice goals. Dancing can be great exercise too, I’m thinking I can make it part of my workout routine now. I’ll commit to learning a new dance step for 30 minutes a day 4 times a week. Reading this was the wake-up call I needed. Thank you Idris Elijah!

That’s beautiful! Music is the perfect medicine and the worse drug, and I’m pleased to hear you’re going to learn how to dance. Plus your goal is specific and I love it! So glad you found value in this newsletter. Thank you so much Maria! 👏🏾😊

When I wanted to learn Spanish I set a goal of 10-15 minutes a day on Duolingo. I now have a learning streak of 2729 days! It’s become a part of my daily routine without even thinking about it. As I’m moving into acquiring other skills (specifically with writing) I’ve found that feedback and accountability from my best friend helps tremendously. I set a goal of reading one book a month and writing something every day after getting feedback from him and I’ve gotten much better at expressing myself clearly to an audience. Celebrating the small victories definitely keeps me motivated to get even better. Great tips today Idris!

Look at you! You’re doing so much and that’s impressive. From reading to writing, you should definitely celebrate the small wins to stay motivated. And it sounds like you have an accountability partner via your best friend. That’s also superb. Thank you Brian for sharing! 👏🏾🙃

After reading your newsletter on fear I talked about wanting to overcome my fear of public speaking. It would help me both professionally and personally. It’s been a month and I’ve already practiced twice, once during a game night at a friend’s house and once with two of my coworkers. I’m setting a clear goal of practicing public speaking once a week now. There is a promotion opportunity coming later this year and mastering public speaking would give me an edge. I’m gonna take your suggestion and reward myself with a treat after each public speech. Good content and thanks for all the tips!

Hey Clark, that’s outstanding, the progress you’ve made in a month. Jumping from friends to two of your coworkers. Committing to practicing the skill weekly sounds like the next logical step and I couldn’t be more happy for you that you are still at it. I’m putting out all good vibes into the universe for you Clark that you accomplish your goal of overcoming your fear of public speaking, and that you get this promotion opportunity. Way to go! 👏🏾😊

I want to learn how to bake! I’m a decent cook but I was never good at baking. My dad will be turning 60 later this year and I’d really like to bake his favorite cake for his birthday. But I want it to be great! I like the idea of starting small. I still have several months so I will make a plan to learn to bake cookies and muffins first and then learn more complex recipes. I want my dad to have a great birthday and baking a cake would make his day more special. Thank you Idris Elijah for the tips and I’m gonna get started this weekend!

That’s an awesome idea! I’m also a decent cook but can’t bake to save my life.lol Your dad would definitely appreciate your efforts, Brooke. And 60 is a milestone to be celebrated! I know you got this, can’t wait to hear how it goes. Best wishes 👏🏾🙂

Painting! Art was always the class I looked forward to most when I was little. I wasn’t that good at it but I felt so creative and peaceful! Sometimes when I look outside my window at all the beautiful trees I think about making a painting of the view. Your newsletter brought back those memories and made me think about my cousin who is really good at painting. I can ask her to give me feedback and hold me accountable. I’ll ask her what would be a good small step to start learning the basics. I enjoyed reading this Idris Elijah!

I feel you on this, Jody. When I was younger I also enjoyed Art class, however, I wasn't that good, but still enjoyed it because it was a creative outlet and it was so peaceful. One day I'd like to learn how to draw and paint, so I know where you're coming from. Having your cousin who is really good at painting as an accountability partner is a brilliant idea. She can give you some insight into where to start and what basics you can pick up quickly to advance in your goal. Pleased you enjoyed this post, thanks for the comment Jody. Love hearing from you 🙃🙏🏾
