As a mom working full-time, there are so many days when my creative dreams take a backseat to survival mode. But reading about you finally choosing to write your novel after all these years reminded me that it’s never too late and that the spark doesn’t die just because life gets full. I’ve had a story in me for years too but I keep pushing it aside. Your honesty gave me the green light to stop waiting for the perfect time and just start showing up, even if it’s 20 minutes after my daughter goes to bed. Congratulations Idris Elijah and can’t wait to read it when you’re ready!
Yes! I was thinking of you as I was writing this issue. Life will always get in the way, but it’s up to us to figure something out. I love that you settled on 20 minutes—it’s what works for you. The perfect time is now. Would love to read some of your work as well one day 😉
This whole issue felt like a defining moment for you and for anyone wrestling with whether to finally say yes to their biggest project. There’s a big difference between creating to share and creating to satisfy your own wild vision. I felt and could relate to that shift here. Thanks for letting us witness it. Now I’m thinking about what I want to say yes to. I’ll be journaling about it for sure. A very inspiring read Idris Elijah!!
Congrats to finally writing the thing that’s been inside of you for many years. I really admire how open you are about the stops and starts. It makes the commitment feel even more real. I’m excited to read the chapters when you’re ready to share. There’s something powerful about choosing the long road when the story won’t let go of you. Can’t wait to see what’s next for you Idris!
Thank you for your kind words Brian! Really excited about what’s next and hope to help a few people along the way. Can’t wait to share what I’ve been cooking. 👨🏾🍳
This was really touching! The way you talked about returning to the novel after years of starts and stops made me think of all the things I’ve quietly put off even though they still live inside me. I love that you’re writing the novel now, not for attention or a quick win, but because it’s yours. I want to carry that kind of creative integrity into my own work. All the best with your journey Idris Elijah…Rooting for you and maybe for myself too!
Definitely for yourself too! I want to lead by example, and if you feel inspired to pursue something you’ve been putting off, we can go on that journey together. Can’t wait to see what you do with the information in this issue. 😉
