I continue to see how journaling (which I started after reading The Potential Paradox) has so many benefits! Building emotional intelligence, gratitude and the superpower called self-awareness! Journaling does help me recognize my emotions and why I’m having them during each day. Now I would like to use journaling (and feedback too) to have a better understanding of the roots of the beliefs that are causing these emotions. I want to have the deep-level awareness you talk about here. Thank you Idris Elijah and I look forward to taking this deeper self-awareness journey!
Indeed journaling has a lot of benefits, and you surely have that down. Adding feedback to the mix is a great idea. I would agree, having a deep-level of awareness is ideal. I have some work to do before I’m on that level. But I’m pleased with your zeal and continued efforts. Way to go Jody! 🙃👏🏾
Hi Idris Elijah! When I was little I used to love writing in my diary. I remember I would write about everything I was feeling and looked forward to getting what was inside my head onto my notebook. I now see this was the start of self-awareness. I stopped writing in a diary a long time ago but am open to journaling now. I’d like to explore more why I get sad or angry or even excited to learn more about myself. I think it will help a lot in my relationships with others too. Thanks for sharing these ideas for us to keep growing!
That’s awesome! Starting young is fantastic, and I understand why you may have stopped the older you got. Same here. But yes, journaling is great for many things. In this case, uncovering the why behind your many curiosities. So pleased you found this issue valuable. 😃🙏🏾
When I was younger I started learning about myself through my interactions with others. I wasn’t always given the space to fully create my own identity but could see from an early age that some people around me were not self-aware. I didn’t have an understanding of what that meant at the time but it helped me see that I needed to understand myself much better to know what I value, what I’m passionate about and how others see me. I now have a best friend who not only understands me well, but himself as well. Having deep conversations and giving each other feedback in a safe space has been such a game changer. There’s still work to be done but self-awareness is a lifelong journey. Great work today Idris!
You learned young how most adults lack self-awareness and that’s great! I’m sure it must have been a struggle but you made it through. Kudos to you! Also having a best friend you can count on is a true blessing. 👏🏾😇
After reading this I think it’s safe to say my difficult coworker doesn’t have a lot of self-awareness lol But one of the most important things I’ve learned from all your newsletters is making sure I’m focusing on my growth. I’ve had success with the pause and even started working on the silence challenge in the mornings. I’m now seeing the benefits of journaling too to understand why I have a roller coaster of emotions at my job. Doing the inner work I believe will improve my well being and get to know myself better. I’m willing to do journaling in the evenings to go deeper and look forward to some positive results. Wonderful insights today Idris Elijah!!
Ahahahaha, yeah I guess you’re right 😂 nevertheless, doing the inner work is so important and I’m glad you realize this. You have to make time for yourself since no one else will and you should always be your own best friend first. Can’t wait to hear about your results 🤗
Oh how I wish I could have sent this newsletter to my ex boyfriend before he came my ex! He was painfully not self aware. He didn’t recognize his flaws and projected his issues onto me and others. He couldn’t communicate and lacked accountability. That relationship taught me how important self awareness is. We can all work on becoming more self aware so I’m glad you mentioned feedback. I have a very supportive best friend and I’m going to ask her for feedback to gain more insight into my behaviors and actions. Thank you for discussing this important topic Idris Elijah!
It’s wild when you recognize in someone else a lack of self-awareness. But I’m glad you realized it before it was too late. Definitely turn to your best friend for feedback. I feel like best friends are obligated to tell you the truth and how it is. You got everything you need. 😇🙏🏾
