My all-time favorite character is probably Mulan. She’s clever and smart from the beginning but a little unsure of herself. By the end of the story we see her bravery and strength as she becomes a real boss! I love characters that have that “I’ll show you” attitude when someone tells them they can’t accomplish something! My favorite shadow (I learned new terminology from you today) is Maleficent. She’s terrifying and chilling but also extremely complex. She’s not evil just for fun, it’s because she feels betrayed and needs revenge. I’ll never forget the first time I watched her turn into a dragon! Beauty, elegance, terror, cruelty….The best stories have added depth and structure from multi-layered villains. Informative and fun newsletter!

Interesting, I never thought about her performance that way. She wasn’t very evil was she? I always saw those films as original stories for her character. But now I’m wondering whether they really set up her character to be the Maleficent we know in the animate film. 🤔

I’m definitely referring to the animated film! The live action Milan lacked humor and heart but the animated film is perfection!
I thought so. And you’re right! It did lack heart and they got rid of Mushu. He was my favorite personally. 😜

Visually great as well as Angelina Jolie in the role of Maleficent but she wasn’t evil and fascinating enough!
