I’ve been working on building better self-care habits and your breakdown makes so much sense. I used to think I just needed to try harder. More willpower. More grit. But that always burned me out! Starting small and focusing on identity instead of outcomes is a great idea. Now it’s not “I should take care of myself,” it will be “I’m the kind of person who does.” Your writing makes it feel doable and even a little fun, which is rare with this kind of advice. I love how clear and encouraging your newsletters are. They are becoming part of my daily routine in the best way. Thank you Idris Elijah!
So glad to hear you learned the same lessons I did, and you exactly hit the nail on the head. You are the kind of person who takes care of themselves. Thank you for the kind words Chloe 🤗
This really hit home Idris. I’ve been trying to clean up my eating habits and I used to rely on willpower, which always ended in a chocolate ice cream meltdown (literally). But I took your advice and started small by replacing the ice cream and mashed potatoes with Greek yogurt and hummus. And somehow, I’ve stuck with it for over a month! I’m feeling better, seeing results and it’s actually not a struggle. Your point about focusing on identity instead of outcomes really clicked for me. The way you laid this out makes it feel like I can actually make lasting change without fighting myself every step of the way. I appreciate your solid advice and the way you make it all so relatable!
That’s so good to hear, the success you’ve had with starting small and focusing on identity. Sounds like they’ve gotten you out of some tough spots. That’s kudos worthy! Great work Brian. 😄🙌🏾
Yes to habit stacking! After I make my morning cup of coffee I start journaling (that I started thanks to The Potential Paradox!). I write a one-sentence journal entry while having my first sips of coffee about how I want to show up for the day. It’s wild how something so small can shift your whole mindset. Caffeine + Clarity = A powerful combination! Great content again Idris Elijah and I’ve been taking a look at your upcoming Personal Development Masterclass!
That’s outstanding! Habit stacking is one of my favorite tools. I’m honored you picked that up here, Jody. You’re also right about caffeine + clarity. Thanks for the kind words, and that’s great! Let me know if you have any questions 😃🙌🏾
In one of your other newsletters about learning a new skill I said I was going to learn how to dance. I committed to starting small and having actionable goals - 30 minutes a day, 4 days a week. And by making it part of my exercise routine, I’m habit stacking too. I’m currently learning the Cha-cha-cha and loving it! My daughter is a very good dancer and is impressed with my progress so far lol. Starting small and specific and habit stacking works. A great read today and have a great weekend Idris Elijah!!
