As a writer, this hit close to home. I can read about structure and technique for hours and convince myself I’m improving, but none of that replaces actually finishing something and living with it. I’m going to spend less time studying and more time publishing, even when it’s uncomfortable. More drafts. More decisions. More ownership. Thank you Idris Elijah for the reminder that growth doesn’t come from understanding the theory. It comes from doing the work! Have a great weekend!
This felt less like tech advice and more like a creative mirror. It’s easy to watch process videos and feel inspired. It’s harder to stare at a blank canvas and decide what belongs there. I’m going to lean into that discomfort instead of avoiding it. Fewer references. More original attempts. Even if they’re messy. Especially if they’re messy. This was a very well written newsletter Idris Elijah so thank you and Happy Friday to you!
The music section was spot on. I’ve spent hours studying production breakdowns, chasing tones, tweaking plugins and it can look like progress. But the growth has always come when I sit down and ask, “What does this song actually need?” and commit. Moving forward, I’m going to write more imperfect songs instead of polishing ideas forever. Fewer tutorials, more authorship and more responsibility. I appreciate the clarity you bring every week Idris Elijah! It genuinely improves how I work. Enjoy your weekend!
This one hit at the right time. I’ve been planning an ebook this year by researching and outlining, tweaking the idea and telling myself I’m getting ready. But that’s still safe mode. At some point I just have to open the doc and decide what I think. No perfect structure. No hand-holding. Just build it and refine after. This was the gentle push I needed. Thank you Idris for another motivating read and Happy Friday!
