I’m voting daily to become someone who lives with intention, creativity and self-trust. I’m finally becoming someone who doesn’t just want to write, but who sees myself as a writer. Someone who shows up, rain or shine. And it’s ok that I don’t have it all figured out yet! Thank you for reminding me that finding deeper meaning in life doesn’t come from achieving a goal. It comes from focusing on my identity. Thank you for giving me so much to think about Idris Elijah!
I’ve been so focused on goals lately that I didn’t even realize I was ignoring my own identity. This totally reframes how I want to move through life. I appreciate this more than you know. “Who are you becoming?” is now written on a sticky note above my desk! I’m becoming someone who leads with purpose instead of pressure. This newsletter was a gift Idris Elijah!
That’s a brilliant idea, writing down “who are you becoming” on a sticky note. Will be a valuable reminder for you surely. I’m floored that you consider this issue a gift. One I’m so pleased to give to you all. Thank you Jody for your kindness and support 🤩🤩🤩
I’ve spent so long chasing finish lines that I forgot to ask who I want to be after I cross them. I’m working on becoming someone who creates because it’s who I am. Not just to prove something. You’ve made a great point today that shows why things like New Year’s resolutions hardly ever work. Goals can be traps in disguise if we don’t pair them with identity. Thank you for another empowering read Idris!
Mmmh, what a welcome reminder I’m sure! You also make a great point about New Year’s resolutions. You’re most welcome Brian, thank you sooooo much for your support! 🤩🤗
I really liked your story about being “the Apple Guy”, especially the part about reaching a goal and realizing it boxed you in. I’ve lived through a version of that experience. I’ve spent years setting goals and wondering why the satisfaction faded so quickly. But reframing goals around identity and who I’m becoming feels like the missing puzzle piece. I’m becoming someone who honors creativity daily, even in small ways. What a great read Idris Elijah!!
I’m glad I’m not the only one who has had a similar experience of being boxed in. You know how it feels. So glad you feel focusing on your identity is the missing piece, because it truly is. Kudos to you for honoring creativity daily even in small ways. Pleased you enjoyed this issue Maria 🙃🙌🏾
I’ve been reevaluating not just what I’m doing, but who I’m becoming in the process. For a long time, I chased goals to feel I’m on track, but they started to feel empty without a deeper sense of self behind them. Lately I’ve been creating from a place of joy and memory by blending music, storytelling and culture. Not for validation, but because it feels true to who I am. Your shift from goal-chasing to identity-building put words to what I’ve been feeling.
I’m becoming someone who honors their creativity, even when the path isn’t clear. Thank you for the reminder to lead with who we are, not just what we want to achieve. A really important topic Idris Elijah!
Love this! When chasing goals we definitely experience a lack of a deeper sense of meaning. Im impressed you’ve cultivated a place of joy and meaning through blending music, storytelling, and culture. A powerful combination! I’m over the moon you found value here, Brooke. Thank you 🙏🏾
